Derisa’s Networking 2

Networking II

My second networking event was for the Senior art showcase in the Alexander Brest Art Gallery. It is no surprise that I showed up to the event about thirty minutes late as punctuality is not strong suit. As a result I was completely lost as to what was going on when I entered. I asked as fellow classmate what the theme of the gallery presentation was; they did not know either. I proceeded to observe the art and I realized the theme was on any topic that was personal to them. There was various works of art including glass, pottery, sculptures, poems, and photography. I talked to one one of the photography students. I told her that throughout the years I have always seen her but had no idea what her major was. I also asked her what inspired her to become a photographer. She said she always enjoyed taking pictures and turned her hobby into a career. One of the most intriguing pieces of art was a piece (rather pieces) was one the depicted the artist cultural identity of growing up biracial. I conversed with one of gallery’s guest to see what she thought about the piece because I found it to be powerful and for lack of a better word plain out cool. She said she though the piece was comical but creative. In the piece the artist compared her black and white grandmother’s cooking one looking more attractive than the other. She even had figures of “Croix” beverages that she enjoyed as a child. Although I went to this event alone I had an easier time conversing with everyone. However, I think it would be more benifical if I attended music related events.
